BE – Basic Skills - English

--  Your instructor has indicated that you need to develop your basic skills in English.  To learn about services available to you that can improve your English language skills, please contact the Student Success Center or English Learning Lab.  Or, if you have not taken the English placement test, please contact the Assessment center at (714) 241-6285 to arrange testing. BM – Basic Skills – Math

--  Your instructor has indicated that you need to develop your basic skills in math.  To brush-up on your math skills, please contact the Student Success Center.  Or, if you have not taken the math placement test, please contact the Assessment center at (714) 241-6285 to arrange testing. C – Counseling

E – ESL Referral

--  Your instructor has suggested that this course level may be too advanced for your current English skill level.  If you have not taken the ESL Placement Test please call the ESL Office at (714) 891-5687 to arrange a time for you to test.  The ESL program includes both classroom and individualized computer-assisted instruction for students of all language backgrounds.

 

H – Homework

--  Your instructor has suggested that your current class standing will improve if you complete your homework/assignments regularly and thoroughly.  If you have any questions or need further explanation, please contact your instructor.

 

L – Low Test Scores

A – Attendance

U – Unsatisfactory Progress

--  Your instructor has indicated that your progress is below average.   Or, your instructor is concerned that you may be late turning in assignments or behind schedule in class.  Please contact your instructor.

 

W – Withdrawal Recommended

--  Your instructor has indicated that you should consider withdrawing from this course to avoid receiving a non-passing grade on your transcript.  Please do not take this recommendation lightly.  Your instructor and the college understand that as a student you face many challenges.  You do have an opportunity to retake the course at a future date.  If you do decide to withdraw from this course, rather than waiting until next semester to resume your education, you might consider the college’s second eight-week courses, winter intersession, or summer session.  Please check the Schedule of Classes for “Withdrawal” information and for additional course offerings.

 

S –  Satisfactory Progress

--  Your instructor would like to inform you that your first 10 weeks in this class have been satisfactory.  You are meeting the minimum requirements for this class; with a little more effort, participation, or homework, you can improve your standing in the class.

Additional Information

 

Student Success Center

The Student Success Center (SSC) has relocated to Room 101 in the new Coastline Westminster Learning Center (14120 All American Way, Westminster). The center is situated near the Westminster Civic Center and the West Courthouse close to Westminster and Beach Boulevards.

The SSC is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. It is closed on Fridays.  SSC offers English and math tutoring along with a variety of short-term, one-half unit, computerized preparatory courses for students who wish to brush-up their reading, writing, and math skills.  Call or visit the Student Success Center at (714) 241-6184 ext.17420 to review your options.  Or email us at success@coastline.edu.

 

Counseling Department

Counselors are available at the College Center (Fountain Valley), Costa Mesa Center, Garden Grove Center, and Le-Jao Westminster Center throughout the semester to provide personal, vocational, educational and transfer counseling. Limited walk-in/resource counseling for short questions is also available. Call (714) 241-6162 for appointments or additional information.  Also, students with disabilities are invited to request assistance from the Special Programs and Services for the Disabled office at (714) 241-6214.

 

Tutoring

Depending on the course you are enrolled in, tutoring may be available and offered at Coastline College or at any one of its sister colleges.  Please check with your instructor, contact the Counseling Department, or call the Student Success Center at (714) 241-6184 x17420.
